EDEN PARK: L’ORIGINAL ET L’ORIGINEL

As a gay New Zealander who moved to France, I have to say that I was fundamentally confused, bemused and amused by the Eden Park clothing line. Here is the most homophobic of sports, and a clothing line named after its cathedral… represented by a pink bow-tie. Vive l’exception française !

Franck MESNEL didn’t enter fashion via the typical route, but then Franck MESNEL is not a typical fashion entrepreneur.  EDEN PARK was founded 1987, a year of gloire.  

 

A l’origine de cette réussite, une finale de championnat de France au Parc des princes, en 1987, lors de laquelle MESNEL et ses compères se firent remarquer en arrivant sur le terrain avec un noeud papillon. Quelques mois plus tard, il créait EDEN PARK, avec, pour emblème…  le noeud papillon. Pink. Rose.

That very same summer, Le Quinze de France (the French Rugby National Team) with Franck MESNEL won the Rugby World Cup Final in the … Eden Park Stadium in Auckland.  ‘The New Zealand team did their Haka dance at the beginning of the game; I had my pink bow tie in my pocket.the famous pink-bow-logo of the brand. It ended 19-12 (June 20, 1987). Franck MESNEL est un sportif- showbiz, attachant, authentique. L’esprit de rugby  anime EDEN PARK.

 

À l’occasion de son lancement à Montréal le 25 avril 2012 au SOFITEL (qui hissa le drapeau de la marque en cocorico!), nous avons évoqué Montréal, la mode femme et enfant, Zidane, la peinture, son Racing Club, le Pitti Uomo, et Twitter….
